Achieving Change in Veterinary Practice

Originally from the Lower Mainland, Dax spent a decade overseas only to be pulled back to pursue an education in the biological sciences at UBC. The AWP became Dax’s academic cornerstone, leading to a bachelor’s degree in Applied Animal Biology which included a summer research term at the Dairy Education and Research Centre. Dax continued with research related to dairy cows by completing his masters with the program in 2016. He then pursued a veterinary degree at the WCVM and has since returned to BC as a small animal veterinarian.

MSc Thesis

Alex grew up in Richmond, BC, and started volunteering in various veterinary clinics during secondary school. He obtained a BSc (Hons.) in Applied Animal Biology at UBC, and graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon in 2018. Since graduation, he has been working at the West King Edward Animal Clinic in Vancouver and sees dogs, cats, and small furries. Alex has a special interest in dermatology and internal medicine, and loves the long-term veterinarian-client-patient relationship, and the variety that comes with general practice. In his spare time, he enjoys photography, hiking, kayaking, and travelling. He started as an adjunct professor at UBC in January 2022, teaching upper-level undergraduate students in shelter animal health and welfare.

After a career in the Canadian Military, Art chose to go into veterinary medicine, with a short stop with the Animal Welfare Program that culminated in a MSc in 2003. Art graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2005, and started his veterinary career in a small animal practice in Ontario. For the last 16 years, he has worked in small animal practice in Richmond, BC.  He is currently a partner in two busy small animal practices, and lives in Vancouver with his wife Kathy and daughter Natalie.
